South Africa’s street food scene just got its biggest spotlight yet. After more than 25,000 public votes, Windhoek Beer has officially unveiled the Top 5 “Realest One-Handed Food Legends” ahead of its much-anticipated Real Food Market takeover in Johannesburg on 28 February 2026.

Set to take place at the Kromdraai Creativity & Impact Hub, the event will bring together food, music, and culture – with one major prize on the line: R200,000.

Mzansi Votes: Meet the Top 5 One-Handed Food Legends

The nationwide campaign called on South Africans to celebrate the kind of food you can eat with one hand, because the other one’s holding an ice-cold beer. From kasi grills to local favourites, timelines were flooded with nominations, tags and passionate votes.

After public voting and judging input, the Top 5 finalists are:

  • Disoufeng – Soweto
  • Chaf Pozi – Soweto
  • Marks Pub & Shisanyama – Pretoria
  • Boipelo’s Kitchen – Mobile Kitchen
  • Sasko’s Kitchen – Vosloorus

These spots now move into the final live voting round at the Windhoek Real Food Market, where attendees will decide who takes home the national title.

Real Beer, Real Food Movement Hits the Streets

Since launching in October, the #RealBeerRealFood campaign has evolved into a full cultural movement, celebrating hatch-side meals, stoep conversations, and food that fuels real-life moments.

Windhoek Beer SA Marketing Manager, Keval Ramraj, says the campaign tapped into something deeper than just flavour. “These aren’t just food spots, they’re memory makers. South Africans showed up in full force for their favourites,” he said.

Windhoek Real Food Market: What to Expect

The 28 February event promises more than just great eats. Guests can expect a full-day festival atmosphere with performances by major acts including Elaine, Shekhinah, Jeremy Loops, Mi Casa, Zoe Modiga, DJ Kent and more.

Entry is free, but booking is essential due to limited capacity.

Final Vote Decides the Winner

The twist? The public attending the market will cast the final vote to crown South Africa’s ultimate Realest One-Handed Food Legend. Alongside the R200,000 prize, finalists will receive national exposure through Windhoek’s platforms.

Scene Feed Thought: Real food isn’t about fancy plating; it’s about flavour, fire and community. When Mzansi votes with its appetite, you know it’s real.
