Firstwatch Whisky Scores Silver at World Whisky Masters 2026

South African whisky brand Firstwatch Whisky has added another international accolade to its name, taking home a Silver medal in the Blended category at The Spirits Business World Whisky Masters 2026.

The recognition puts the locally marketed brand back on the international awards stage, following its Gold medal win at the same competition in 2022.

For whisky drinkers who enjoy a good blend without stretching their budget too far, the latest award puts Firstwatch back in the conversation.

The World Whisky Masters forms part of The Spirits Business’ Global Spirits Masters Competitions, where spirits are assessed through blind tastings by independent industry experts. The judging process allows products to be evaluated on their qualities rather than brand reputation or packaging.

Firstwatch is an imported blend of rye and cereal grain whiskies, with its base whisky matured for at least three years. Its flavour profile combines floral aromas and sweet fruit notes with the richer, woody character of rye.

The whisky can be enjoyed over ice or mixed with a preferred mixer, making it an option for casual get-togethers and relaxed evenings with friends.

Shaun Appel, Senior Brand Manager for the Brown Spirits portfolio at Edward Snell & Co., says the award reinforces the brand’s focus on quality and affordability.

According to Appel, Firstwatch has built a loyal following by offering a whisky experience at an accessible price point. He adds that the latest recognition gives consumers another independent reference point when considering the brand.

Firstwatch is available nationally at major retail outlets, with a recommended retail price of R209.99.

For a brand that has previously earned Gold at the competition, the latest Silver adds another milestone to its awards record while keeping the spotlight on a familiar question for consumers: what are you getting for your money?

International recognition is worth celebrating, but for everyday whisky drinkers, the real test is still what is in the glass. With a Silver medal to its name and a price point below R210, Firstwatch gives budget-conscious consumers another bottle to consider.
