Global superstar The Weeknd is blending music, culture, and coffee with the launch of Nespresso’s new African Origin collection, Samra Origins. The collaboration is more than just another celebrity partnership; it’s a heartfelt tribute to family, creativity, and African heritage, brewed from the roots of Ethiopia and inspired by The Weeknd’s late mother, Samra.

In a world-first rollout that’s now arrived in South Africa, the Samra Origins collection brings together Nespresso’s signature craftsmanship and The Weeknd’s soulful artistry. The result? A limited-edition coffee that celebrates storytelling through taste, one that feels as personal as it is global.

A Love Letter to Culture and Connection

For The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, this partnership hits close to home. Born to Ethiopian parents, the artist has never shied away from his cultural influences, often weaving them into his music, visuals, and style. With Samra Origins, he channels that same connection into a cup of coffee.

“Coffee runs deep in my family culture. It’s about gathering, sharing, reflecting,” he says. “That’s what Samra Origins and Nespresso mean to me – sharing a love of that tradition and making it accessible to many coffee lovers is truly incredible.”

From Ethiopia to South Africa – A Heritage Worth Sipping

Launched in South Africa during Heritage Month, Samra Origins carries special meaning for a country that values storytelling, legacy, and connection. The single-origin blend, made from 100% Arabica beans grown near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, captures the essence of African soil and tradition.

Expect delicate fruit notes layered with a hint of toasted cereal, resulting in a smooth, balanced flavour that feels both familiar and sophisticated, a sensory nod to the continent that gave the world its first coffee plant.

“Samra Origins isn’t just about coffee,” says Gabriel Nobre, CEO of Nespresso South Africa. “It’s an experience – one that celebrates African heritage, artistry, and emotion.”

Where Creativity Meets Coffee

From the capsule design to the packaging, every detail of Samra Origins reflects The Weeknd’s creative fingerprint. The limited-edition accessories, including a tumbler and travel mug, feature design elements inspired by Ethiopian art, with the logo written in Amharic, one of the country’s four official languages and one the artist speaks fluently.

“Working with Abel allowed us to merge the worlds of creativity and coffee,” adds Philipp Navratil, Global CEO of Nespresso. “Samra Origins is a tribute to culture, connection, and the creative spirit that unites us all.”

Scene Feed Thought: From the recording studio to your coffee mug, The Weeknd is rewriting what collaboration means; blending music, memory, and African roots into something truly timeless. With Samra Origins, Nespresso proves that coffee isn’t just a drink; it’s a story worth sharing.
