McDonald’s South Africa has tapped into pure nostalgia with the launch of the limited-time FRIENDS Meal, a collaboration that blends fast food favourites with one of television’s most iconic sitcoms, FRIENDS. Rolling out nationwide from 21 January 2026, the campaign brings a global pop-culture moment straight to South African fans, with a local twist.
The collaboration, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, celebrates the everyday rituals of friendship, food, and shared laughs; values that sit at the heart of both brands.
What’s Inside the FRIENDS Meal
The FRIENDS Meal lets customers choose between popular McDonald’s options such as Chicken McNuggets or a classic burger meal, paired with World Famous Fries and a brand-new, limited-time offering: Monica’s Marinara Sauce. Inspired by Monica Geller’s love of cooking, the Italian-style tomato sauce features notes of garlic, onion and herbs, giving fans a new way to enjoy their fries and nuggets.


Each meal also includes one of six exclusive character-inspired collectibles, turning every visit into a surprise reveal.
Collectible Characters Fans Will Want to Keep

The campaign’s collectables pay tribute to the personalities and moments that made FRIENDS a global phenomenon. From Ross alongside Marcel the monkey, to Monica in full chef mode, Phoebe with her guitar, Rachel behind a coffee counter, and Joey and Chandler with their iconic chick and duck; each figurine captures a piece of the show’s humour and heart.
With six characters to collect, fans are encouraged to return, swap with friends and complete the full set while stocks last.
Rewards, Giveaways and Digital Extras
Beyond the meal itself, McDonald’s South Africa is extending the experience through competitions on radio and the MyM App, giving fans the chance to win prizes and engage with the campaign beyond the counter.
The brand has also introduced a limited four-part podcast series titled Conversations with Friends, hosted by South African podcaster Lebo Lion. The series brings local digital voices together for relaxed, friendship-driven conversations inspired by the themes of the show, adding a uniquely South African layer to the global collaboration.
