Sneaker brand Converse has teamed up with Sanrio to launch a colourful new Hello Kitty and Friends collection, blending fashion, nostalgia and playful design.

The collaboration brings together two cultural icons; Hello Kitty and the classic Converse Chuck Taylor All Star, both of which have inspired self-expression and individuality for generations of fans around the world.

The collection celebrates friendship and togetherness, themes that have long been associated with Hello Kitty since the character was first introduced in 1974.

Sneakers designed with playful details

The all-ages collection includes several sneaker styles for both adults and children. Fans can expect updated versions of classic silhouettes such as the Chuck 70, Chuck Taylor All Star High and Chuck Taylor All Star Low.

Design elements draw inspiration from collectible stickers and kawaii culture – the Japanese aesthetic centred on cuteness and playful expression. The sneakers feature layered graphics of Hello Kitty and her friends, along with custom prints, charms and bead details that add personality to the designs.

Some styles also include unique touches like Hello Kitty’s iconic red bow on the toe cap, giving the classic Converse silhouette a distinctive twist.

A premium crystal edition adds extra sparkle

One of the standout pieces in the collection is a premium version of the Chuck 70 that incorporates crystals from Swarovski.

The design features a crystallised Hello Kitty face and a sparkling Chuck patch, paired with a themed keychain and premium packaging. Each pair also includes velvet dust bags, adding a luxury element to the collaboration.

Where South African fans can shop the collection

The Converse x Hello Kitty and Friends range officially launched on 5 March 2026 and is available online and in selected stores. South African shoppers can find the collection through Converse stores and online retailers including Superbalist.

Scene Feed Thought: From streetwear enthusiasts to longtime Hello Kitty fans, this collaboration demonstrates how fashion can transform childhood nostalgia into everyday style.
