South African motorsport fans and LEGO lovers were treated to a world-first moment as a life-size LEGO® Technic Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance car made its high-impact arrival on local soil, marking the largest LEGO build ever brought into South Africa.

The full-scale model was officially unveiled at the Mercedes-Benz Experience Centre at Zwartkops Raceway, where media, motoring enthusiasts, and LEGO superfans gathered for what felt like a cross between a pit-lane reveal and a childhood dream coming to life.

A Collaboration Between Precision and Play

According to Valery Kasimov, LEGO South Africa’s newly appointed Country Manager, the reveal signals the brand’s vision for bigger, bolder creative experiences.

“We’re committed to pushing the boundaries of imagination through play,” Kasimov said.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa echoed the sentiment, highlighting why this collaboration makes perfect sense.

“This build reflects the precision and performance both brands stand for,” said Claudius Steinhoff, Executive Director MBC & Co-CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa. “It’s a celebration of engineering excellence; from the racetrack to LEGO bricks.”

Nearly 200,000 Bricks, 900kg of Innovation

The life-size LEGO F1 car may look like a model enlarged, but its creation required serious craftsmanship.
Here’s what went into the engineering marvel:

  • 192,937 LEGO bricks
  • 8 hours of expert construction
  • 5.1 metres long, 2.2 metres wide
  • Approximately 913 kilograms

Built from the 1642-piece LEGO Technic set as a creative blueprint, the final structure mirrors the real Mercedes-AMG F1 car with startling accuracy, from its aerodynamic profile to the sleek W14-inspired detailing.

Now on Tour: SA’s First LEGO F1 Roadshow

The excitement doesn’t stop at Zwartkops. The build is set to embark on a nationwide showcase, giving South Africans the chance to experience the giant LEGO car up close.

Fans can look forward to:

  • LEGO Build Stations – design your own mini race cars
  • Championship Racing Ramp – compete for top times
  • Reflex Challenges – test skills like the real drivers
  • Pop-Up LEGO Store – exclusive sets and merch
