New player enters South Africa’s energy drink market

A new energy drink brand has officially entered the South African market. NASTY ENRG launched in Sandton this week, positioning itself as a product aimed at everyday consumers looking for an energy boost during busy routines.

The launch event took place at Net Set Padel Sandton City Rooftop, where media, content creators and entertainment figures gathered for the first public introduction of the drink. The brand says its focus is on celebrating the resilience and ambition of ordinary South Africans rather than relying heavily on traditional celebrity-driven campaigns.

The idea behind NASTY ENRG

According to Chief Marketing Officer Azhar Zainal, the drink was created to reflect the daily hustle many people experience. He explained that the concept behind the brand is centred on recognising individuals who continue to show up and push forward in their personal and professional lives.

The launch also introduced the PULSE Series, a product line built around bold flavours and functional ingredients designed to support energy and focus.

What the new energy drink offers

The drink enters a competitive local market with several features intended to stand out. The PULSE Series includes six flavours and contains ingredients commonly found in energy drinks such as guarana, taurine and B-vitamins.

According to the brand, these elements are aimed at helping support focus, energy levels and metabolism while offering a flavour-forward experience. The product also introduces a refreshed visual identity, including a redesigned logo and can packaging intended to stand out on store shelves.

Launch event blends music, creators and culture

The Sandton launch doubled as a cultural event, featuring the premiere of an ENRG short film starring amapiano artist Uncool MC.

Guests included a mix of influencers, media personalities and entertainers such as Lethabo Mekoa and Sicelo Buthelezi. Performances throughout the afternoon featured acts like Money Badoo alongside DJs and performers who kept the energy high.

Availability and price in South Africa

NASTY ENRG is already rolling out to selected retailers across the country. The recommended retail price is R14.99 per can, placing it among the more affordable options in the energy drink category.

With the local market continuing to grow, the brand hopes its flavour-driven approach and community-focused messaging will resonate with South African consumers.

Scene Feed Thought:
South Africa’s energy drink space keeps expanding, and with culture-led launches like this one in Sandton, brands are clearly trying to connect with the lifestyle around the hustle – not just the caffeine boost.
