Tshwane prepares for a bold new cultural festival

A fresh cultural moment is set to take off in the capital as Wonder Fest makes its debut on 7 March 2026 at Wonderboom National Airport. Positioned as a lifestyle and music festival, the event introduces a first-of-its-kind experience designed to celebrate Tshwane’s creative energy in a setting unlike any other.

A runway transformed into a cultural playground

Under the theme “The Flight Experience – Not Flying, But Elevating Culture,” Wonder Fest reimagines the airport runway as a cultural runway. The festival blends music, fashion, food and community into a day-to-night celebration that invites guests to participate, express themselves and immerse in a vibrant lifestyle atmosphere.

Inspired by the popular Wonder Market, the festival expands the concept into a large-scale gathering that merges curated food experiences, style culture and live entertainment into one immersive environment.

The inaugural lineup features some of South Africa’s most influential artists, including DJ Maphorisa, Sun-EL Musician, MÖRDA, Vigro Deep, Ms Cosmo, Transmicsoul & Silly Bean, Kyotic DJ and Shandesh. Hosts Mpumi Landan and Mfana Gogo will guide festivalgoers through a carefully curated musical journey that builds momentum from afternoon grooves into nighttime energy.

Why Wonderboom Airport is the perfect backdrop

The choice of Wonderboom National Airport aligns the event with a historic aviation precinct celebrating 90 years of operation. Its expansive infrastructure and strategic location allow the space to transform from a transport hub into a vibrant civic venue that promotes tourism, supports small businesses and encourages community engagement.

A festival designed to become a Tshwane tradition

Festival representative Victor Mopelong describes Wonder Fest as a cultural moment created for the capital city, one that reimagines how people experience music, fashion, and connection. Organisers envision the event growing into an annual cultural institution that celebrates local identity while resonating nationally.

Scene Feed Thought:
Wonder Fest isn’t just bringing music to Tshwane, it’s turning the runway into a stage for culture, creativity and connection, setting the tone for what could become the capital’s signature festival experience.
