Sandton spent the last weekend of January in full summer mode as Nespresso transformed Nelson Mandela Square into a vibrant iced coffee hub. Over three days, the brand’s 90s-inspired Summer Pop-Up blended coffee, movement and music, drawing Joburgers into a lifestyle experience that went far beyond the cup.
Running from Friday, 30 January to Sunday, 1 February 2026, the free-to-attend activation reimagined iced coffee as a social ritual. From early-morning tastings to high-energy workouts and DJ-led moments, the pop-up reflected how coffee culture in the city continues to evolve; active, communal and unapologetically fun.
Fitness, flavour and the rise of the coffee run
One of the weekend’s biggest highlights came on Saturday with the Coffee Run and Rave, hosted in partnership with Vault Strength Club. The experience fused movement and music, proving that iced coffee is as much about energy and connection as it is about flavour.
According to Nespresso South Africa Brand Manager, Nerika Singh, the goal was to activate iced coffee culture rather than simply showcase products.
Inside the Nespresso summer pop-up experience

Visitors moved through a series of interactive spaces designed to spark curiosity and content creation. A dedicated Iced Coffee Tasting Bar served up seasonal favourites, while a nostalgic ice cream truck dished out affogatos with a playful twist. Retro-inspired photo moments, interactive games and product displays showcasing Nespresso’s summer machines and accessories kept the Square busy throughout the weekend.
Local creators and style tastemakers including Barbara Moagi, Sarah Langa and Thandiwe Gama added to the atmosphere, sharing the experience across social platforms and amplifying the activation well beyond Sandton.
Making iced coffee at home, the easy way
Nespresso also leaned into accessibility, showing that iced coffee doesn’t need complicated prep. Whether brewed over ice with milk, shaken into a latte, or turned into a mocktail-style refreshment with coconut water and mint, the brand’s summer capsules are designed to hold flavour at cold temperatures.

Simple tips like using larger ice cubes, chilling your glass and experimenting with plant-based milk helped guests recreate café-style iced coffee at home.
Scene Feed Thought
This wasn’t just a pop-up, it was a snapshot of where urban coffee culture is headed. By mixing fitness, flavour and fun, Nespresso reminded Sandton that iced coffee isn’t seasonal anymore – it’s a lifestyle, and summer is just the excuse to press play.
